The Lamborghini Murciélago is a high performance sports car designed in two-door, two seater body style. This car was manufactured by Italian automaker Lamborghini, and it was referred to as a super car due to the presence of mammoth V12 engine, which could pump out some serious power. It was the flagship of the Lamborghini lineup during its early days, alongside the Lamborghini Gallardo, and Diablo.
First generation (2001-2005)
The Lamborghini Murcielago was prefaced in 2001 as a coupe and succeeded as a famed Diablo supercar in the series of Lamborghini.
The first generation Murciélago was a midsize sporty vehicle designed in 4-wheel drive. It had the coupe body style and it was particularly low-slung. This super car contained scissor doors that contributed to its exclusive looks.
During the period of 2001 to 2006, the first generation Murciélago was fairly popular in the market, motorized by a 6.2-litre V12 engine, in which, the back differential was embedded and the 4-wheel drive featured a central viscous coupler.
The power was passed to the wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission. The first generation Murciélago boasted of a free double-wishbone suspension design, and featured a grouping of steel and carbon fiber body work.
It had the V12 engine and produced under 580 PS. The engine had the capacity to speed up the car to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds, which was simply unparalleled feat.
Second Generation (2006-Present)
The present generation model is a 40th anniversary version of the Murciélago. In previous years, the company had released dedicatory versions of the Diablo and Countach. The 40th anniversary cars are produced in very limited numbers, and only 50 of them were rolled out into automotive market. The current generation Murcielago is enhanced with
• Carbon-fiber out side detailing,
• Bluish Jade-Green body color,
• A restored exhaust system,
• A numbered plaque displayed inside the rear window, and
• Upgraded wheels.
Murciélago LP640
The interior has leather trim and some extra electronic gadgetry too. In the month of March, 2006, Lamborghini offered an edition of its halo car, during auto show held at the Geneva; it was labeled as the Murciélago LP640.
The new design indicates name of the car, orientation inside the car, and engine position. The car has a improved power unit (V12) and the displacement enhanced to 6.5 liters. The car’s new engine can churn out 640 PS (471 kW; 631 hp) at 8000 rpm.
Exterior of the Murciélago gets a small facelift that revised rear and front fascias and air intakes. An exhaust system is integrated in the back diffuser and the left intake is enhanced to give place to the oil cooler.
The elective package incorporates
• Glass engine cover,
• Chrome paddle shifters, and
• Carbon fiber-reinforced Silicon Carbide (C/SiC) ceramic composite brakes.
Coming to the estimated fuel economy, the new Murciélago LP640 can provide 13 miles per US gallon (18 L/100 km; 16 mpg-imp) on highway and 8 miles per US gallon (29 L/100 km; 9.6 mpg-imp) in city.
